Kara Swisher says she plans to leave CNN rather than work under David Ellison once Paramount Skydance's merger with Warner Bros. Discovery is complete. She said she'd rather work for Rupert Murdoch and has asked her agent about an early exit; her contract runs through year-end.
On her “Pivot” podcast, Swisher called David Ellison and his father, Oracle CEO Larry Ellison, “terrible media owners.” She said CNN’s current executives had tried to keep her and that she has a lot of regard for them.
The merger was cleared after California Attorney General Rob Bonta, who led a 12-state coalition suing to block the $111 billion deal, agreed to drop the lawsuit after Ellison accepted concessions intended to preserve film and television production schedules. Ellison is aiming to complete the merger by Oct. 1.
