Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert rejected questions Wednesday that he lacks vocal leadership, saying it is “very present.” Los Angeles is 0-2 after 26-14 home losses to Arizona and Las Vegas, and visits Buffalo on Sunday.
Questions about Herbert’s leadership date to 2024, when former teammate Chris Harris Jr. questioned his clutch ability. Chargers tackle Rashawn Slater and lineman Trey Pipkins later defended Herbert’s leadership. A 16-3 wild-card loss to New England on Jan. 11 left Herbert 0-3 in the playoffs; he said he had not figured out how to win one.
Herbert threw two interceptions against Las Vegas. Coach Jim Harbaugh attributed one to tight end David Njoku bobbling a pass and the other to receiver Derius Davis running the wrong route, and said he would not change anything about Herbert.
