Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in New York for Wednesday’s UN speech as a senior Iranian official told Reuters Tehran offered to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days if the US eases military pressure and lifts its port blockade.
Trump told the General Assembly he faced two choices for dealing with Iran, one “annihilation”; Iran’s delegation walked out. Pezeshkian was expected to blame the US and Israel for starting the war and cite alleged war crimes, including a suspected US strike on a school in Minab that killed more than 121 children and 26 teachers.
A senior Iranian official said the New York delegation had full authority to revive diplomacy, although Pezeshkian had not played a central role in negotiations. Hardliners in Tehran urged him not to show weakness, while Trump had not ruled out meeting him during his trip.
