The IOPC recommended a Met standards probe into Brandram’s case handling, including the necessity and proportionality of arrest, media contact and welfare. Brandram was suspected of pushing a woman into a bus’s path on Putney Bridge in 2017 and found dead on 15 September.
Brandram, 44, was suspected of being the jogger who pushed a woman into the path of a bus during a run on Putney Bridge in May 2017. His family said he took his own life after the “immense pressure” of the police investigation and told the BBC he was not the so-called “Putney pusher”.
The Met said it recognised the strain of being subject to a police investigation and that its inquiry into the 2017 incident remained ongoing. The IOPC said the Met must submit its final report for review if the investigation finds no potential misconduct.
