A 17-year-old Westbury High School senior died after being shot Friday morning near Dryad Drive and Burdine Street, about 1,000 feet from the Houston school. Investigators say they do not know what led to the shooting and are searching for a suspect.
Authorities said they believe the shooting was isolated. About 25 troopers were searching for the suspect, while investigators canvassed the neighborhood for Ring camera footage and reviewed video they had recovered. Two witnesses were interviewed.
Westbury High was placed in “secure mode” during the investigation, but officials said it was never under lockdown and there was no active threat inside. Counselors were available Friday, and the district planned to add staff patrols.
