A 17-year-old Westbury High senior was shot and killed near the Houston school Friday morning. Police arrested another 17-year-old in connection with the shooting after a search involving nearly 100 officers and personnel from multiple agencies.
Officials said investigators used drones and other surveillance technology to track the suspect to a neighborhood near Hillcroft. He was arrested on a street near a residence police had been watching. The police chief said the teen is believed to have acted alone and is not currently enrolled in Houston schools. Police recovered a handgun but had not confirmed it was used in the shooting.
Police believe a dispute between the teenagers escalated before the suspect pulled a handgun, but investigators have not established a motive or whether the victim was specifically targeted. They are also trying to determine how the two knew each other.
