A homeowner said a drunk driver hit a nearby transformer around 10 p.m., cutting grid power. The solar-equipped home switched to backup, but a Rivian charge through a Wallbox reportedly drained both Tesla Powerwall 3 batteries in about an hour.
The homeowner also said Wi-Fi failed during the outage and Wallbox appeared to lose its NetZero connection, so an automation intended to stop charging might not have worked. Reddit commenters suggested linking the Rivian to NetZero through its cellular connection, keeping the charger off backed-up circuits, or using a relay that disconnects it when grid power fails.
