“Hanuman Ansh” has grossed more than $3.5 million overseas in Hombale Films’ first international distribution of a film it did not produce. North America led with $1.8 million, according to the company’s territory figures.

The film opened internationally on Sept. 11. Hombale said it took ownership of global territories and partnered with local distributors, including Phars in the Gulf Cooperation Council region and Prathyangara in North America. Producer Chaluve Gowda said the company used data from earlier releases, including “Mahavatar Narsimha,” to select markets and cinema chains. Hombale’s other reported territory figures were $606,716 in Australia and New Zealand, $577,870 in the GCC, $269,837 in the U.K., $61,334 in Singapore, $41,171 in Europe and $483,006 elsewhere.

In India, the film opened Aug. 7 on about 250 screens through Cinépolis India and expanded to more than 2,000 after word of mouth. It grossed INR340.7 crore ($35.5 million) in seven weeks on an estimated INR2 crore ($209,000) budget. Director Vishal Chaturvedi has planned it as the first part of a trilogy.
