George Springer has not decided whether to continue playing, telling Sportsnet, “I don’t know” and saying he has not thought that far ahead. His six-year, $150 million Blue Jays contract is expiring; he and his wife sold their Toronto home for about C$6 million.
After Toronto was eliminated from 2026 playoff contention, Springer’s options include returning to the Blue Jays, playing for another club or retiring. MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand said the expiring contract would open a lineup spot and a $25 million salary slot for Toronto.
Sportsnet reported that family needs may influence Springer’s choice. He and his wife, Charlise, have three sons, ages five, three and three months. Their Lawrence Park South home was listed for C$6.445 million and reportedly sold for about C$6 million; they bought it for C$6.43 million in January 2022.
