Fred Trump III urged media not to amplify every provocation, arguing that attention may be what his uncle, President Donald Trump, craves. He recalled Trump looking gloomy at a 1990 family gathering on a day Trump was absent from the New York Post cover.
Fred said the gathering followed eight straight days with Trump on the New York Post’s front page, some with “very personally negative” headlines. According to Fred, his uncle Robert Trump explained that Donald was glum because he was not on the cover that day.
Fred, the son of the president’s late brother Fred Trump Jr., is an outspoken critic of his uncle. In his memoir, he alleged Trump used racist slurs and once said “maybe” people with severe disabilities “should just die”; Trump has previously denied allegations made by his nephew.
