Makia Lashay Shivers, 31, was arrested Sept. 24 outside Martin Correctional Institution with bags the sheriff’s office said were meant for inmates, including 464 grams of methamphetamine. She faces a trafficking charge and is listed as held without bond at Martin County Jail.
The bags also contained 37 cell phones, K2/THC, cigarettes, alcohol, phone chargers, shoes and other contraband, according to the sheriff’s office. Shivers was also charged with burglary of an unoccupied structure, possessing a controlled substance without a prescription and introducing contraband into a state prison.
The sheriff’s office said Shivers told deputies that two men from Broward County persuaded her to make the delivery. She became scared and ran, and the men left the area. The investigation is ongoing; the office gave no information on whether the men were arrested or warrants were issued.
