Dr. Idris Evans, 46, was killed and his wife critically injured when a man allegedly broke into their Edgewood, Pennsylvania, home and stabbed them as they slept, police said. Their two children escaped unharmed; Elijah Hemingway, 32, faces homicide and other charges.
According to the criminal complaint, the wife said an attacker in his underwear used a kitchen knife in the couple’s third-floor bedroom. She said Evans called the attacker Elijah, though she did not know him. The children were 8 and 12 and fled to a neighbor’s home.
Police said a K9 unit found Hemingway behind a nearby house and that they believe he entered through a back window. Hemingway told investigators Evans invited him inside and attacked him with a knife; Hemingway said he disarmed Evans and repeatedly stabbed the couple. He faces charges including homicide, aggravated assault and burglary.
