Disney raised prices: standalone Disney+ and Hulu Premium rise $2.50 to $21.49; ESPN Unlimited adds $2 to $31.99 and ESPN Select $1 to $13.99. The ad-free Disney+/Hulu bundle rises $2 to $21.99; the $35.99 ad-supported bundle including ESPN Unlimited is unchanged.
At $21.49, Disney+ Premium, which includes 4K streaming, costs less than Netflix Premium at $26.99 and HBO Max Premium at $22.99, but more than Paramount+ Premium at $13.99. Disney’s ad-supported Disney+ and Hulu plans cost $3.50 more per month than comparable Netflix and Paramount+ options, and $1.50 more than HBO Max’s.
Disney says bundled streaming services have much lower churn, a reason for its push to encourage subscriptions to two or all three services. Its streaming entertainment business, excluding ESPN, reported $5.5 billion in revenue and $712 million in operating income in the latest quarter; operating income more than doubled from a year earlier.
