Dexys Midnight Runners frontman Kevin Rowland says the band's seventh album, Love, could be its last: he is not currently inspired to make another, though he is not ruling one out. A 2024 kidney crisis inspired “You’re Alright,” one of the album’s songs.
Produced by DJ and musician David Holmes, Love explores childhood, later-life, breakup and family love, as well as Christmas love. Its two-part song “My Life in England” moves from Rowland’s memories of growing up to reflections on life today.
Rowland hopes Dexys can tour the U.S. next year, which would be the band’s first performances there since 1983; he cited costs and visa difficulties. The group is due to tour the U.K. and Europe, with “Come on Eileen” and songs from Love in the set.
