The Detroit Pistons could use John Collins at center in smaller lineups; he shot above 40% from three in multiple seasons, including last year, and could help them field up to five capable shooters. Taurean Prince is one possible power-forward option.
With the Los Angeles Clippers last season, Collins averaged more than 13 points and five rebounds per game while often starting in a less prominent offensive role. The team prioritized other players, but Collins remained effective from mid-range. He is expected to have a larger offensive role in Detroit.
If Collins moves to center, Detroit still needs a power forward. Ron Holland II could defend bigger players but would not add shooting; Prince could fill the spot part-time after making 43% of his threes in each of the past two seasons. At 6-foot-6 and 218 pounds, Prince could be undersized against traditional bigs. Tolu Smith and Isaac Jones are other feasible options. Coach J.B. Bickerstaff used a small-ball lineup in the Eastern Conference semifinals in May.
