Deadliest Catch’s season 22 finale, aired Sept. 25, showed deckhand Todd Meadows’ final FaceTime with his three children; his daughter urged him to stay safe. Meadows, 25, fell overboard from the Aleutian Lady on Feb. 25 and died.
During the call, Meadows’ daughter told him, “I hope you’re being safe. If you’re not being safe, you better be safe”; he replied, “Oh, I’m being safe.” The episode followed the crew’s experience of his death but did not show his fall.
A Coast Guard spokesperson said crewmates recovered Meadows unresponsive about 10 minutes after he fell overboard, and first aid and resuscitation attempts failed. His death certificate listed drowning with probable hypothermia, and his death was ruled an accident.
