President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva leads Senator Flávio Bolsonaro 47% to 45% in a hypothetical runoff ahead of October’s election, a Datafolha poll found. The two-point gap is within the poll’s 2-point margin of error.
In a first-round scenario, Lula polled at 40%, Bolsonaro at 36%, Augusto Cury at 5%, Ronaldo Caiado at 4% and Renan Santos at 3%. If no candidate wins more than 50% of valid votes, the top two advance to a runoff.
Datafolha surveyed 2,002 people on September 22–23. Last week’s poll also gave Lula a two-point lead, at 46% to Bolsonaro’s 44%.
