CNN anchor Laura Coates repeatedly told Scott Jennings to stop talking over Democratic strategist Mike Nellis in a debate on the Iran war and living costs. Jennings called Iran defeated; Nellis said the Strait of Hormuz was not open.
Jennings argued Republicans voted for President Donald Trump to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. He said millions of barrels of oil were moving through the Strait of Hormuz, with flows nearing prewar levels. Nellis argued that if the strait were open, gasoline and diesel prices would fall, saying Americans were not seeing that relief.
Coates said Republicans such as Mike Rogers, a former Michigan representative running for Senate, had begun speaking against the war despite previously supporting it, as high prices threatened their midterm prospects. She asked whether voters would view the shift as disingenuous or an evolution. Nellis said Americans’ lives were significantly worse than six to eight months earlier and argued the Republican Party was in trouble.
