At Climate Week events, Trump adviser Jarrod Agen said wind and solar would not be the solution to U.S. power needs, while Rep. Mike Levin called clean energy the country's path forward, reflecting agreement on expanding energy but disagreement over how.
The Trump administration has argued wind and solar projects are too costly and unreliable. Agen did not rule them out entirely, but cited sourcing—particularly materials from China—and tax subsidies as concerns. Levin pointed to House Democrats' Thriving Economy Project, which includes energy affordability and grid modernization; a Lazard analysis this year found renewables among the lowest-cost forms of new-build generation without subsidies.
Separately, McLaren Racing and the Great Barrier Reef Foundation are applying racing engineering to coral restoration. Their Oscar One robot can collect at-risk coral spawn in about 8 seconds, versus roughly 90 seconds for a marine scientist; the effort requires 100,000 repetitions. Foundation managing director Anna Marsden said reefs cover 1% of the sea floor yet shelter and feed 25% of marine life.
