Cibele Marchis, 28, and her mother, Maria Elisabete Nogueira, 56, died of cancer 10 hours apart on Sept. 24 and 25 in Mogi Guaçu, Brazil, at separate hospitals. Marchis had aggressive adrenal cancer; Nogueira had pancreatic cancer.
Their family said both women had asked not to be told if the other died while she was still alive, and neither knew of the other's death. They were buried together in a joint ceremony. Cibele was her parents’ only child, her cousin said; her father survived his wife and daughter.
Marchis was diagnosed in 2024, and her mother learned she had pancreatic cancer about a year later. In an October 2025 social media post, Marchis said a 10 cm adrenal tumor had taken over her kidney; she described three surgeries, an infection after the last that led to a 20-day ICU stay, and being on her eighth chemotherapy cycle.
