CC Sabathia’s No. 52 was retired and placed in Monument Park, the headline event in the Yankees’ weekly social-media roundup. He called it one of the best days of his life and thanked the cities, teammates, staff and fans who shaped his career.
Weekend rain left Yankee Stadium less full than hoped, and the Bleacher Creatures’ attempt to start a “Thank You, CC” chant did not catch on.
Other items included Austin Wells getting engaged and NBA champion Josh Hart throwing a strike on the ceremonial first pitch during his Friday bobblehead giveaway at Yankee Stadium. The giveaway had been scheduled before the Knicks won the championship. The Scranton RailRiders’ social-media administrator also visited the Bronx after the minor-league season and saw a Ben Rice home run.
