Brazil’s federal government announced a suspension of betting companies’ activities on Friday, Sept. 25; new deposits are prohibited, bettors must receive account balances by 11:59 p.m. Oct. 5, and platforms are due to go offline Oct. 6.
The provisional measure’s full terms were still due to be published in an extra edition of the Official Gazette. The article says 14 of Brazil’s 20 Série A clubs have betting-sector sponsorship deals; it lists Athletico, Bahia, Coritiba, Internacional, Mirassol and Red Bull Bragantino as exceptions. Grêmio, previously on that list, announced a betting company as its main sponsor on Wednesday, Sept. 23.
