An explosion in Darazinda, Pakistan, killed at least 11 people, including two women, and wounded more than 30, officials said Saturday. A police official said initial findings suggested a suicide attack on a police check post; he said the toll could rise.
Security in Pakistan has deteriorated in recent months. Earlier this month, around 30 people were killed in attacks in Kohat and Hangu; the Islamist coalition Ittihad-ul-Mujahideen Pakistan, which has links to al-Qaeda, claimed responsibility for the Kohat attack. Islamabad accuses Afghanistan’s Taliban of harbouring terrorists who carry out attacks in Pakistan, an accusation Kabul rejects. Pakistan has carried out airstrikes on military installations in Afghan border regions; on Thursday, Islamabad responded to drone attacks by the Taliban government with fresh airstrikes.
