Axcelis Technologies announced a $35 million investment in a 200,000-square-foot ion-implantation equipment factory in Pyeongtaek, South Korea. Groundbreaking is planned for Oct. 20, with production scheduled to begin in the second half of 2028.
After revenue fell to $839 million in 2025, Axcelis reported that second-quarter 2026 sales rose year over year and exceeded its forecast, helped by stronger system shipments and aftermarket business. Still, GAAP earnings per share fell to $0.75 from $0.98 a year earlier, and gross margin slipped to 42.4% from 44.9%. The company forecast 2026 revenue growth, about $230 million in third-quarter sales and momentum into 2027.
The pending merger with Veeco was still awaiting remaining conditions, with Axcelis targeting a close in the second half of 2026. The company was also operating with an interim CFO.
