Arizona troopers arrested an SUV driver for endangerment and reckless driving after stopping him westbound in I-40's eastbound lanes near Winslow on Sept. 20. DPS said he told troopers his wrong-way driving was part of a game called “Lunatic”; no one was hurt.
DPS said the driver called himself the game's “supervisor” because he was older than the two other players. The agency has not identified them or said whether they were in his SUV or driving other vehicles. The driver's account, relayed by DPS, is the only public evidence cited that “Lunatic” exists.
It is not public whether prosecutors have filed the endangerment count as a class 6 felony or class 1 misdemeanor. Arizona law makes that distinction depend on whether the risk was of imminent death; DPS has not released details such as the SUV's speed, distance traveled or traffic conditions. The driver has not been convicted.
