Amanda Hampton and three syndicate partners won a Set for Life prize paying £10,000 (about $13,250) a month for 30 years. After a difficult day grieving her sister Michelle, Hampton asked for a sign that Michelle was okay; she learned of the win the next morning.
Hampton, from Cardiff, is in the syndicate with her brother Gareth, her ex-husband Matthew and close family friend Louise. She initially dismissed the National Lottery email as a £5-win notice, then checked the app before work. The prize was officially confirmed while she was traveling with colleagues; she said she had constantly worried about money before the win.
Michelle died in April 2024. Some of the winnings will support her son as he prepares to go to Australia next month. On the anniversary of Michelle’s death, the group stayed in the presidential suite at Celtic Manor in Newport, Wales, fulfilling a running joke about what they would do if they won, and raised a toast to her.
