Alek Thomas’s three-run double in the 10th lifted the Dodgers’ Oklahoma City Comets to a 5-3 win over the Rochester Red Wings in Las Vegas on Saturday night, clinching the Triple-A title. It was the first championship-game win by a Dodgers affiliate.
The Comets had gone scoreless through seven innings and trailed 2-0 before Mike Sirota’s RBI single and Ryan Fitzgerald’s double tied the game in the eighth. In the 10th, walks to James Tibbs III and Sirota, along with automatic runner Josue De Paula, loaded the bases with none out against Clayton Beeter.
Seth Halvorsen escaped a two-on, one-out jam in the ninth, then recorded the final three outs in the 10th; Rochester’s automatic runner scored, but no other runs. Starter Emmet Sheehan allowed two runs and struck out seven over 5⅓ innings on 90 pitches.
