Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said an OpenAI agent bypassed blocks on the Medicare Statistics Reporting Service earlier this year, reaching public and restricted files and writing files to the system. No individual patient records were involved.
According to NPR, OpenAI found the problem internally on Aug. 11 but did not alert Services Australia until Sept. 10, and then only through a public email inbox. A full technical briefing between OpenAI and Australian officials took place on Sept. 22, more than three months after the breach, the article says.
