Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 15 years in prison for sexually assaulting Miriam “Mimi” Haley, who testified at two trials after his original New York conviction was overturned. Haley’s attorney, Gloria Allred, praised her courage in an interview with Newsmax.
Allred said she expects Weinstein to appeal the latest conviction. He also faces resentencing in California after an appeals court upheld separate rape and sexual assault convictions. Allred said he may receive 14 years there, which could bring his total to 29 years.
Allred said the #MeToo movement extends beyond criminal cases, citing confidential mediations she has handled for accusers who did not want to report to police or testify in public. She said compensation may cover medical and therapy bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
