After England’s 3-2 Nations League defeat to Spain, Thomas Tuchel defended starting Jarell Quansah at right-back over available Trent Alexander-Arnold, citing Quansah’s pace and central-defender instincts in a back three.
Lamine Yamal opened the scoring after a Marc Guehi error, but Anthony Gordon and Harry Kane put England ahead. Kane then missed a penalty won by Jude Bellingham; Alex Baena levelled in the 60th minute after a Nico O’Reilly error, and substitute Mikel Oyarzabal scored Spain’s winner.
Tuchel said Quansah had been top class at the World Cup and in training that week, and called him excellent in the match. The report says Quansah won three of seven duels, missed a chance and made a defensive error that led to a shot that did not result in a goal.
