Andrea Granieri argues candidates should meet voters at public forums after one party’s slate was absent from a Sept. 15 League of Women Voters event in Anderson Township, leaving attendees without a chance to hear directly from every candidate.
Granieri says her Hamilton County ballot includes 45 candidates in contested races, from governor and Congress to state lawmakers and judges. She says forums help voters hear candidates’ positions directly on issues such as health care costs, school funding and property taxes.
She acknowledges that scheduling conflicts and emergencies can arise, but says candidates should make every reasonable effort to attend. She also urges voters to consult voter guides, look for candidates’ own words and documented positions, and keep asking questions.
