Matt Sellen, an air-conditioning technician called to a malfunctioning unit at a macadamia farm near Byron Bay, New South Wales, found about 20 snake skins in the attic. He searched briefly for the snake or snakes but did not see any.
Sellen, of Coolman Air Conditioning & Pro-Active Maintenance, told Newsweek that snakes and shed skins are commonly found in rural roof cavities around Byron Bay. He said carpet pythons are common in hinterland properties, but the skins were not identified as belonging to that species.
Roof cavities can offer warmth, dry conditions and shelter, while rodents around farms and homes can attract predators such as pythons. The skins suggested the animals had used the attic for some time; Sellen said he was intrigued rather than alarmed by the discovery.
