A 4-year-old died after an eastbound vehicle struck them on Pleasant View Avenue in Corona on Sept. 22, police said. Relatives were tending to a parked car nearby; the driver stayed and cooperated, and police do not believe impairment was a factor.
Police said officers were dispatched at 2:37 p.m. to the 1400 block of Pleasant View Avenue. The child was taken by ambulance to a hospital and later died; authorities have not publicly named them. The investigation is ongoing.
Safe Kids Worldwide says 377 child pedestrians from infancy through age 14 were killed in motor vehicle crashes in 2023, while just under 13,000 suffered nonfatal injuries. The nonprofit reported that the rate of fatal pedestrian injuries among children fell 18% between 2009 and 2023.
