34 Trade Centre UK customers seek refunds as Trading Standards investigates complaints

BBC

Sandwell Council Trading Standards is investigating complaints about Trade Centre UK. Thirty-four customers told the BBC they were still seeking refunds for cars they say developed faults. The company describes problems as rare and says it investigates them with customers.

Amber and Nathan Cooper say their £7,000 Citroën C4 lost power as they drove to Cornwall for their honeymoon in August 2025. They returned it two weeks later and discovered it needed a new engine, clutch and gearbox. A year on, they say they still have no refund or apology and are in debt after borrowing to replace the car. Trade Centre UK says possible resolutions include repairs, replacement vehicles or, where appropriate, accepting a customer's rejection of a vehicle.

Connor and Danielle Johnson-Bray say their Wednesbury car broke down within two days and a replacement failed three times in eight months; after a refund was refused, the finance company through which they bought the car agreed to settle a small-claims case. Customers also said the Consumer Rights Act rejection process was lengthy and complicated, with claims often refused. Michelle Chancellor said Trade Centre UK accepted her refund after BBC coverage, but payment took two to three weeks. Consumer expert Stuart Masson said the process should be easier in the first month but becomes more complicated after six months.
